I’m going to shake the table a little bit but why is she ALWAYS the “go-to” on HBCUs for interviews? There are other academics with HBCU connections doing this work. And she works at UPenn....

Howard has an entire doctoral program focused on studying MSI/HBCUs leadership, their prospective and take on the situation and current research would have been nice as well.

  1. .....all while framing most of her advocacy for our schools from a position of “what HBCUs won’t do and aren’t doing” rather than “what HBCUs are politically, culturally, and financially prohibited from doing.””

I would love to hear thoughts on the HBCU vs State of MD case. It’s funny how the research or critique of HBCU’s, like her recent statements on Howard, are never coupled with the important context of segregation that just ended a few decades ago.
  1.   Retweeted
I’m not mad at her “doing the work” but this is what I mean when white people who want to be an ally don’t really know what that means. Allyship requires you to step aside and uplift a marginalized community, not center yourself. But it’s almost 11am and I got things to do.
  1.   Retweeted
Nothing wrong with a little spice, adds more flavor to the pot. There does need to be more research on HBCUs overall, but she’s not the *only* person doing it. I’m nobody in academia, but I wish someone with more weight would call her to the altar on this.

I totally agree, but she’s viewed as this national figure on HBCU discourse, and too many times her own responses are vague and never portray a true picture. It’s like she’s done no research at all.

I'm totally for it. Can't keep letting others speak for us - especially since we have experts in presidents, former presidents, faculty on our campuses actually living the work.

Like.....the optics alone. A white woman who never went to an HBCU or worked at one, being the go-to talking head about HBCU matters (and other MSIs) and conducting research out of a center housed at UPenn, a white Ivy league school. Right.
