Technologists of Color is a group committed to building the African American tech community in Atlanta. Its primary goal is to connect tech professionals so that they can share knowledge, resources and opportunities. It also strives to inform and educate the community to help increase African American participation in the rapidly growing world of technology. 

Tonight's meeting discussed lean startups and walked through methods for leveraging the Build-Measure-Learn cycle to incrementally develop products that are best suited for success. DLL Storify of #MBKHack in Oakland, CA -- Friday 2/20/15 to Sunday 2/22/15

Its Website declares that the mission of Qeyno Labs is to "transform children's lives and give them the power to transform their worlds through social innovation, education, and technology." Hackathons are Qeyno's most important tool for fulfilling this mission. Indeed, Qeyno has made "hackathon" a household word in hundreds of homes. (Interested readers should check out the mini-documentary about Qeyno that was produced by MSNBC.)

Based in Oakland, CA, Qeyno partnered with #YesWeCode on two hackathons in other cities in 2014 ==> at the Essence Festival in New Orleans in July and at the first first #MBKHack in Philadelphia in November. DLL Storify of IGNITE International Girls Hackathon -- Friday 2/13/15 to Sunday 2/15/15

According to its press release: "The IGNITE International Girls Hackathon, organized by Global Fund for Women, is bringing together girl coders around the world in February to contribute their talent, ideas, and creativity to build real-world solutions that address issues of safety. The Hackathon – which will have locations in several international cities – brings together teams of girls ages 11-23 for a 24-hour intensive coding collaboration. The Hackathon will showcase the ingenuity and innovation of girls globally as they attempt to hack solutions to a critical challenge facing women and girls: access to safe spaces."

New York City and Oakland, CA were the two participating U.S. cities. Girls Who Code coordinated events in NYC; Black Girls Code coordinated events in Oakland. Coding Movements -- Mainstream vs. Grassroots

Two overlapping, but distinct coding movements have recently swept the nation: the mainstream movement strives to provide opportunity and encouragement for all of the nation's youngsters to acquire coding and computational thinking skills at the earliest possible age; the other movement focuses on Black and Latino youngsters. The mainstream movement engages school systems, whereas the Black and Latino movements are grass roots operations that directly engage parents and students.

Directory of HBCU Computer Science Programs -- Version 1.8a

The following table is version 1.8A of a directory of the degrees offered by 33 HBCUs in "Computer Science" in the 2012/2013 academic year, the most recent year for which this data is available. The table also shows the number of students who graduated from  programs in 2012/13. The data was extracted from the online IPEDS Data Center on February 2, 2015. The DLL will produce a report that analyzes this data by COB Friday 2/20/15.
